I'm proud but a bit hesitant to offer one of the rarest Speedmasters which comes from my personal collection. It's the RADIAL dial, named after it's very special prototype dial made for the 1978 NASA ALASKA III Project. It's probably the closest you can get to owning a Speedmaster actually used by NASA!

So let's get dive deeper into this... In 1978 Omega participated in the NASA tender for chronographs for the upcoming Space Shuttle missions in the 1980s. Omega issued 56 watches to NASA for the Space Shuttle program and these were actually used in various missions. These 56 watches all had the radial dial. The difference is that the subdials had a different layout to the regular Speedmasters so that they could be more readable in space. Also they had 5 sec intervals instead of 10. It's not so obvious for people who don't know these and that's also where the attraction lies, besides being super cool and beautiful! 

These 56 watches were internally (at Omega) called Alaska Project III Speedmasters. Probably Omega kept a few watches also (unissued). The NASA Alaska III's are the property of the US Government and thus not for sale. But what makes this story interesting is that probably 30-40 additional dials remained at Omega (guess is around 100 RADIAL dials were made in total). Since then, some of these dials have been fitted to standard Speedmasters and my watch is one of those ST 145.022-78's.

The example here is in pristine condition with very sharp case, original crown and off course the beautiful original Radial dial. It comes on a velcro strap, similar to the original when worn in space (they prefered these to the metal ones). It's accompanied by a black racing strap with Omega buckle. Furthermore it comes with an Omega extract, confirming this dial! The 861 movement is also in great condition and functioning well.

A truly rare opportunity to acquire a piece of Omega Speedmaster, NASA and space exploring history and very few ever come for sale!
